How it works

Three steps, a few seconds.

  1. 01Pick the platformEach one shows the numbers it makes public.
  2. 02Enter the numbersLikes, comments, shares, saves, views and followers.
  3. 03Read the resultEngagement by reach, by followers, and against your usual.

Two ways to measure engagement

By followers: interactions ÷ followers. Easy to work out for any account, but on TikTok, Shorts and Reels most views come from people who don’t follow you, so it can top 100% and stops meaning much.

By views: interactions ÷ views. It measures how many people who saw the post did something — the better number when you have it.

Compare a post with your own usual

Industry averages mix huge brands with small creators and every niche at once. Your own median post is a fairer bar: a post at 2× your usual views is doing something your others aren’t, whatever the averages say.

FAQ

Good to know.

What’s the engagement rate formula?

(likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ followers × 100, or ÷ views × 100 for engagement by reach.

What is a good engagement rate?

It varies too much by platform, niche and account size for one number to be fair. Compare a post with your own usual post instead — that’s what the last box does.

Which interactions count?

Whatever the platform shows: likes or reactions, comments, shares or reposts, and saves or bookmarks.
